The Process
I purchased a basic, 3/4 sleeve denim jacket from ThredUp and then upcycled it into a one-of-a-kind piece that suits my style perfectly. I used a vintage crocheted doily I had purchased at The Velvet Bird and detail pieces cut from three cloth napkins I’ve had in my stash for a long time. This piece definitely qualifies as slow fashion! I’m a slow hand sewer (thanks arthritis!), so it took me almost three hours to attach the detail pieces by hand. I sewed the doily on by machine using a narrow zigzag stitch and then tacked down each flower petal by hand. I removed the plain “jeans” type metal buttons and replaced them with blingy “diamond” buttons.
The Result
This jacket is now a piece of art.
